Developing the highest possible level of responsibility in relation to sustainability is not only a goal, but a commitment that we at Longevitas have acquired as part of our philosophy. Trying to leave a better world for those who come in the future, or at least to damage it as little as possible, should be a goal we strive to achieve every day. For this reason, in recent years we have taken steps in this direction, leading us to eliminate almost 100% of the use of paper in our internal processes—for example, by sending invoices only in PDF format for years now—by selecting ingredients with traceability whenever possible, allowing us to know if they have been produced responsibly, and by promoting the use of plant-based proteins. Recycled and recyclable packaging. In 2021, we went a step further and expanded this commitment by setting a goal of eliminating all cardboard and paper from our packaging, replacing it with a material made from recycled plastics that is also recyclable. Recycling plastics can be an expensive and complex activity, and these are the main reasons why more plastic is not recycled today. However, there is an exception within the different types of plastics. PET containers. This type of packaging is the one we have selected for all our products. For the following reasons: Because of their lightness. They weigh very little, which also means that the amount of material required for their manufacture is very small. They are non-toxic and highly resistant to external agents. Because they are resistant, presenting high chemical and thermal resistance. Due to their characteristics related to product preservation, since they are containers suitable even for food preservation. Because they're 100% recyclable. And not only that, as with metal or glass, PET plastic containers can be recycled indefinitely. For its balance between resistance and flexibility. For its impermeability. PET packaging is one of the most environmentally friendly packaging formats available today, and for this reason, combined with its advantages in preservation, insulation, and durability, it is the format we have selected for packaging all of our products. Some interesting facts about plastic. Plastic is a material that has been demonized in recent years, and in many cases, quite rightly so. It is important to be aware, however, that not all plastics are created equal, and that the recycling process is costly and complex for most types of plastic, with the exception of PET. To identify whether a container is made of PET plastic, simply look for a triangle with the number 1 inside. Sometimes, it may be accompanied by the initials PET or other symbols that identify it as suitable for preserving food, for example. It is a very harmless material that guarantees perfect preservation of the product. Being made with recycled materials and 100% recyclable reduces the environmental impact to almost a minimum. Furthermore, it is usually manufactured in long series and in a fully automated manner, which is why the manufacturing and recycling of this type of packaging is not as costly and complex as other types of plastic. Unlike other countries in the European Union, Spain recycles all four main types of plastics, while our neighboring countries focus on recycling only one or two types of plastic packaging. Despite this, we recycle approximately 15% of all plastic used, so there's plenty of room for improvement. For every kilo of recycled plastic, we can save up to a liter of oil and 2.5 kilos of CO2. Longevitas Commitment . Just as one of our main goals in developing our products is to use the most advanced ingredients and the doses recommended by the most recent scientific studies as ideal for achieving the intended benefit, we maintain this same commitment when it comes to product packaging. Therefore, as soon as we become aware of another material with better characteristics than PET, we will study the feasibility of using it for packaging Longevitas products.
