A more or less literal translation of Age Management Medicine could be translated as Medicine for age management. At Longevitas, we prefer to talk about Medicine for healthy aging. Some people also refer to this branch of health as Medicine of the Ps: Proactive, Preventive, Predictive, Personalized, Participatory, and Pleasurable. Or, to put it more simply: taking care of our health today in a pleasurable way, without requiring sacrifice or enormous effort, to enjoy a longer and better life.

The Medicine of Ps: Personalized. This is a process that can take more or less time depending on the individual, and this is where the P for personalized would fit in. Some people can change their habits almost completely overnight, while others need a progressive process that allows them to gradually acquire healthy habits, while abandoning or reducing other harmful habits. Proactive: It's best for the individual to take the first initiative, although support and advice may be sought afterward. To achieve any change, one must be convinced that oneself wants to achieve that change. Hence, it's often referred to as proactive medicine. Preventive: We talk about preventive medicine because it involves addressing potential ailments or health problems before they manifest. This can range from adopting healthier lifestyle habits to more sophisticated health strategies. Predictive: Today, it's possible to identify certain biomarkers that allow us to determine the predisposition to developing certain health problems. Therefore, predictive medicine allows us to address them, to the extent possible, before we develop these health problems. Participatory Teamwork is usually more effective than individual work. And health is no exception. Participatory medicine integrates doctors, psychologists, personal trainers, nutritionists, and all those specialists whose care and advice can provide benefits to our health. Pleasurable And, of course, it must be pleasurable. We can all endure the sacrifice of a strict weight-loss diet for a few weeks, a month, perhaps with iron willpower for two months... But in the end, these types of sacrifices cannot be prolonged forever. It is much more important to develop healthy lifestyle habits that we can integrate into our daily lives, that are beneficial to our health, and that we can also enjoy both the progress made and the changes achieved. What can we do day by day to achieve a longer, better life? There are three basic pillars on which we could base any strategy to achieve a change in habits that will result in clear health benefits: proper nutrition, exercise, and supplementation. We could add a fourth section, since adequate rest is often as important as nutrition, exercise, and supplementation. Briefly, we could highlight the importance of each of these points:

  • We obtain a large portion of the nutrients our body needs through food . For various reasons, it is not always possible to obtain all the necessary nutrients through food.
  • The health benefits of physical exercise have long been beyond doubt. Moderate exercise, however, tailored to each individual's abilities, age, and—why not?—likes and dislikes.
  • Where food is not available for various reasons related to the cultivation/breeding, harvesting, processing, or preparation of food, supplementation is available, ensuring the supply of the nutrients our body needs.
  • All of this is of no use if we do not allow our body to recover with the necessary rest time, normally developing all the processes that take place during sleep.
